And a High Rise Journey To Genova, Racing The Rain.
7th May 2016
At eight o’clock, after the rude awakening by Asena as she trampled over me in her haste to get out, we broke camp, ate bread and jam, and headed for the road. Mother though, was disappointed. Because we were only spending one night in France…this did not bother me though, because we were heading to the land of spaghetti, pizza, ice cream and most famously……..the mad drivers!!
Back on the road, I set about taking some pretty images of the French Riviera and countryside. The hills today were not like the rolling waves of the southern ocean, no, instead they were like the waves of a storm in the Atlantic. As we cut our way through the roads, nothing could stop us-(apart from the need for the loo, and the ten gazillion toll booths)-we were going like a rocket!
Eventually, we passed Monaco, which I managed to catch a glimpse of, and this also meant we were not to far from the Italian border, and just as I was arguing with Geoff about how close we were to the border, we entered Italy….
The coastline was stunning, and all the different colour buildings were beautiful, we all loved the view -(apart from mum)- another thing mum did not like we’re the bridges on stilts which Geoff was driving over at high speeds. Everybody was leaning into the bends after a few miles of speedway madness, even Asena who was sliding up and down the backseat with each curve. Why build a straight road huh?
We were going to Genova,(where we were spending one night again. We loved Taragona, camping on the beach was so cool and we could have stayed for days, but the rain was setting in, and we decided to try and stay ahead of the bad weather. We got away from France dry today, but thunderstorms are forecast there tomorrow. We are racing East the further east we go, the better the weather gets, plus mums tan is fading!!) This is the one and only road with all its bridges, bends and tunnels.
As the bridges got higher, and Geoff got faster, and the wind picked up, mum began to scream!-So in a state of panic we had to stop and get ourselves a drink.
At last though, we got to Genova, where for half an hour, we were looking for our hotel called Albergo Boccadasse, the traffic through the town during our search was interesting, cars fighting for position and scooters and motorbikes approaching from all angles, sneaking up like gnats! Geoff had to have eyes in the back of his head! (The scooters actually sound like gnats too! )
